Foreign official documents for official use in Belgium for matters of civil status or nationality should not only be legalised, but also be translated into a Belgian national language (Dutch, French or German). This is the case e.g. for a birth registration, an attribution of nationality or a transcription of an official document.
Important remark: if, in the framework of a visa application, the official document is written in English, there is no need to have it translated. It should only to be legalised.
The translation of the official document may be done in the country of origin or in Belgium where a list of translators can be obtained at the registry of the Court of First Instance. In all cases, the signature of the translator has to be legalised.
